Seaborne Cargo handling 1980 – 2015

Seaborne Cargo handling 2014 / 2015

For 2015, Hamburg as a universal port reported total seaborne cargo throughput of 137.8 million tons. This was 5.4 percent below the previous year’s record level of 145.7 million tons. Growth in handling of bulk goods here failed to compensate for the fall in general cargo traffic caused by weaker markets in container throughput and transhipment services via the Port of Hamburg. In 2015 general and bulk cargo throughput accounted for 67 and 33 percent of the Hamburg’s total seaborne cargo throughput.
