Barging Ahead: Inland waterways are the means of transport of the future

With 106 berths around 10,000 annual calls by inland vessels, the Port of Hamburg is one of the most important inland ports in Germany.

In 2021, a total of 123,000 TEU were moved by barge in hinterland transport. Added to this are around 130,000 TEU transhipped by barge in the Port of Hamburg.
In terms of tonnage, around 7 million tons are included in the 2021 statistics. The strongest groups of goods are ores. Crude oil, natural gas, coke and petroleum products.
