Barging Ahead: Inland waterways are the means of transport of the future

With 106 berths around 10,000 annual calls by inland vessels, the Port of Hamburg is one of the most important inland ports in Germany.

In 2022, a total of 117,000 TEU were moved by inland waterway vessel in hinterland transport. Added to this are around 131,000 TEU transhipped by inland waterway vessels in the Port of Hamburg. In terms of tonnage, around 7.5 million tonnes are included in the 2022 statistics. The strongest groups of goods are coke and petroleum products, ores, stones and earths, mining products as well as coal, crude oil and natural gas.
