„Ane Maersk“

The “Ane Maersk” is the world's first large methanol-fuelled container ship. At 350 metres long and 53.5 metres wide, the “Ane Maersk” can carry up to 16,000 TEU. It is the first of a series of 18 methanol-capable ships with capacities between 16,000 and 17,000 standard containers (TEU) to be delivered by Maersk in 2024 and 2025.

The Danish shipping company Maersk has already launched the green methanol-powered feeder ship “Laura Maersk” for testing in 2023. With a full tank of 16,000 m3, the ship can travel 23,000 nautical miles or 41,400 km.

Compared to a sister ship running on heavy fuel oil, the “Ane Maersk” will save 280 tonnes of CO2 per day.

The new design of the series is striking, with the bridge and crew accommodation at the very front of the ship, resulting in higher cargo capacity and more fuel-efficient operation.
