On 22 October 2024, the 'Höegh Aurora' docked in Hamburg for the first time. It is one of the largest and most environmentally friendly car carriers in the world and is part of Höegh Autoliners' innovative Aurora class. At almost 200 metres in length and with a capacity of 9,100 vehicles, the ship is ready for the future: it can run on LNG and, after a conversion, on a carbon-free ammonia propulsion system. The 14 reinforced decks can carry electric vehicles and heavy loads. It is also equipped with 1,500 square metres of solar panels and connections for zero-emission port operations. According to the shipping company, the Aurora class, the first of entered service in 2024, reduces CO2 emissions per vehicle transported by 58 per cent.
