The Port of Hamburg – China’s most important European hub for imports and exports
The universal port of Hamburg is the leading seaport in Europe for China’s foreign trade. The Middle Kingdom is its most important partner for container traffic. Volume handled totals around 3.0 million TEU. Almost one in three of the containers handled in the Port of Hamburg comes from China or is starting the sea voyage to China from there. Among both imports and exports, the cargoes most transported include food and beverages, chemical products, machinery and equipment, household appliances, timber products, paper, cardboard and printed products, as well as metals and metal products. Chinese companies especially appreciate the Port of Hamburg’s excellent links with the European hinterland, and in particular Central and Eastern Europe. 18 fully-cellular container liner services connect the Port of Hamburg with China every week.
