Data protection is an important issue for Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM). HHM respects and maintains the right of users and third parties to informational self-determination. Selection and processing of personal and log data
When you visit our website we collect, process and use data: Personal data cannot always be eliminated from this process. Without this, use of our website on your terminal is only possible to a limited extent. But first we would like to state: HHM does not store users' IP addresses on the server, except for members of HHM who log in, using their personal data, to the internal area of PORTblog. Here IP addresses used to register for an event are temporarily stored to facilitate contract processing and security. If a company cancels its membership of HHM or an individual leaves a member company then the account on the PORTblog platform is deleted and the personal data for that individual is deleted, unless it is stored as a result of misuse or law enforcement purposes.Cookies

First-quarter seaborne cargo throughput was 7.9 percent lower this year at 31.9 million tons. Container handling reached 2.2 million TEU, down by 6.6 percent. Throughput on seaport-hinterland services was less seriously hit by the downturn.Even Germany’s largest universal port is affected by the repercussions of the corona crisis. Seaborne cargo throughput in the first quarter of the year at 31.9 million tons was 7.9 percent down on 2019. Container handling at 2.2 million TEU was 6.6 percent lower. Container hinterland transport services remains comparatively stable, while the drop in demand for transhipment handling was more obvious.

Charts Press Conference: 1st half-year 2019

Germany’s largest universal port remains on a growth course, achieving a distinct 4.1 percent advance to 69.4 million tons in seaborne cargo handling in the first half of 2019. Especially good growth trend in the general cargo segment, up 6.1 percent at 48.4 million tons, was the main contributor to the excellent figures for total and container handling. The total for bulk cargo handling was just 0.3 percent lower than for last year’s first half at 21.0 million tons.

Handling 135.1 million tons of seaborne cargoes (down one percent), Germany’s largest universal port can report a respectable result for 2018. Hamburg successfully asserted itself in a difficult environment, achieving a distinct advance on railborne seaport-hinterland transport. In 2018, this category accounted for totals of 46.8 million tons – up 2.7 percent – and 2.44 million TEU – up 4.7 percent. More than 60,000 cargo trains with around 1.6 million freight cars were handled during 2018 on the Port Railway network alone.

Fairway adjustment on the Lower & Outer Elbe

Hamburg, 2018 August 23rd - The fairway adjustment is the most important strategic development project for the Port of Hamburg. Upgrading the fairway can start as soon as the Federal and Hamburg planning authorities have eliminated the reservations expressed by the Court. A corresponding supplementary planning procedure has been carried out and completed today with a supplementary planning decision. This was mainly concerned with the ‘Billwerder Island Tidal Connection’ project.

Adjustment of the fairway on the Outer and Lower Elbe can start

Hamburg, 2018 August 23rd - Good news for shipping and Hamburg’s port customers throughout the world: The planning procedure for the adjustment of the fairway has been completed with the supplementary planning approval. A third supplementary planning procedure requested by the Federal Administrative Court has been conducted by the planning agencies responsible for the major project. The legal preliminaries are therefore in place that will enable construction to start.

At 70 million tons, first-half seaborne cargo throughput in Hamburg in 2017, including the general and bulk cargo segments, all but matched the previous year’s, being only one-fifth of one percent (0.2%) lower. In the first six months of 2017 containerized general cargo throughput at 4.45 million TEU (20-ft standard containers) was at the previous year’s level. Up by one percent at 23.5 million tons, bulk cargo throughput in Germany’s largest universal port continued to grow.

Good first quarter for Hamburg’s seaborne cargo throughput as a universal port
-
In the first quarter of 2017, the Port of Hamburg’s total throughput was up by 1.7 percent at 35.4 million tons. Growth in Germany’s largest universal port was therefore slightly above the average 1.6 percent for the other major North Range ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Bremen/Bremerhaven. Contributing to the Hamburg total, bulk cargo throughput was 6.7 percent higher at 12.2 million tons, and general cargo handling at 23.1 million tons, just 0.7 percent lower. In the former segment, the 12-million-ton mark was exceeded for the first time, and the best quarterly figure achieved since records began.
