At the IAHP 2022 Sustainability Awards, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) won in the category "Environmental Care" with its SeaClear project. SeaClear joins forces with eight global partners to combat marine litter. There are an estimated 66 million tonnes of waste in our oceans. Much of it is at the bottom of the sea. The innovative system of SeaClear involves an autonomous ship and two underwater robots. The goal is to clean up the seabed. It is made difficult by currents, limited visibility due to murky water and also uneven ground. The port of Hamburg is acting as a test area for the now award-winning system.
