As part of her summer tour, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche visited the Port of Hamburg earlier this week. During a tour of the site, she was briefed on current projects, innovative technologies, and the challenges facing this key maritime hub.
Reiche emphasised the strategic importance of the Port of Hamburg for the German economy and assured that the federal government would step up its support for port infrastructure in the coming years. A portion of the additional funding is to come from the Climate and Transformation Fund, with a particular focus on climate-friendly modernisation and sustainable technologies.
The Minister was accompanied by representatives from the maritime industry and political sphere. The importance of additional investment from the Federal State's special funds was also highlighted during the visit. The Federal Government’s Maritime Coordinator, Christoph Ploß, pointed to the high financial requirements and stressed that Hamburg, as one of Germany’s key logistics centres, must benefit from further funding.
The visit once again underlined the vital importance of close cooperation between the federal and regional governments and the port industry, in order to future-proof Hamburg as a location and strengthen its role as an international hub.
