Explosions on Müggenburger Straße: AXXUM Packaging Hamburg affected by fire incident

On Monday, 25 August, a fire broke out in a warehouse on Müggenburger Straße in Hamburg-Veddel, during which several gas cylinders exploded. The blasts caused significant damage to neighbouring premises and also posed risks to adjacent businesses.
Support for emergency services
Hamburg Fire Brigade was deployed with a large contingent and spent several days tackling the fire. Due to the explosions, surrounding roads had to be closed off. Employees of AXXUM Packaging Hamburg actively supported the emergency services – among other things by deploying a reach stacker to move containers, thereby facilitating the fire-fighting and securing operations.
Extent of the damage
The impact of the explosions is clearly visible across the area. The premises of AXXUM Packaging Hamburg were also affected: gas cylinder impacts left craters in the ground, and damage occurred to buildings and storage areas.
Operational impact and outlook
Clean-up work on the AXXUM site is already well under way. Based on initial assessments, the company expects that deliveries and collections will be able to resume as normal from the beginning of next week. Until then, access to the affected area remains restricted. For urgent cases, alternative AXXUM locations are available to customers.
This incident once again underlines the importance of well-defined procedures and emergency plans in port and logistics operations, ensuring that operational disruptions are kept as short as possible.
