After almost 30 years of service for the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), Captain Jörg Pollmann will retire at the end of May. Jörg Pollmann was given a ceremonial farewell at a Senate breakfast in the City of Hamburg's guest house, to which a small circle of selected companions from the city and the port were invited. In recognition of his special services to Hamburg as a port and shipping location and to Hamburg's port birthday, Senator Michael Westhagemann presented him with a replica of the first Admiralty Portugaleser in silver from 1675. Pollmann's successor will be his colleague Simon Rosenkranz, who has already been working as Deputy Captain of the Port since 2018.

Jörg Pollmann, a native of East Frisia, has been with the HPA since 1994. As Senior Nautical Director and Captain of the Port, he is responsible, among other things, for the safety of all shipping traffic in the Port of Hamburg. In addition, he accompanies major maritime events such as the Hamburg Harbour Birthday and the Cruise Days every year. In addition to the Nautical Head Office, his team includes the three port offices as well as the Basic Affairs and Port Security departments. Before Jörg Pollmann was appointed head of the HPA's Oberhafenamt, he worked on general cargo and container ships as well as in the port industry, where he held leading positions in stevedoring and quay operations.

Senator Michael Westhagemann: "Our port captain has rendered outstanding services to Hamburg as a port and shipping location and to the Port of Hamburg. Under Jörg Pollmann's leadership, the Port of Hamburg has become one of the safest large ship ports in the world. I would like to express my sincere thanks for his strong commitment and heartfelt dedication to the cause. I now wish him all the best for the new phase of his life!"

Jens Meier, CEO of the HPA: "On behalf of the HPA's Executive Board, I would like to thank Jörg Pollmann most sincerely for his commitment over the past almost 30 years and the excellent work he has done as Captain of the Port - not only for the Port of Hamburg and Hamburg, but also within his worldwide network."
