On 6 February 2014 Hamburg as a centre of economic activity was presented with the Image Award 2014 in the category “Logistics Regions” by VerkehrsRundschau and Matthias Wissmann, VDA President. Senator Frank Horch accepted the distinction in Munich in person. Hamburg is highly popular as a logistics base with Germany‘s shippers. This was the conclusion reached in a recent survey commissioned from the Lüdinghausen-based Kleffmann market research institute by the Munich trade magazine “VerkehrsRundschau”. With 812 of a maximum possible 1000 image points, Hamburg topped this ranking of Germany’s twelve most important logistics regions.

Hamburg was successfully defending its first place in the ranking among Germany’s most popular logistics regions. The Hanseatic City had also occupied top spot in the last survey in 2008. Senator Frank Horch as representative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg was presented with the Image Award 2014 by “VerkehrsRundschau” editor-in-chief Birgit Bauer and Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), in the course of the “VerkehrsRundschau” Gala in Munich. Horch was clearly delighted about the prize: “Irrespective of the Hanseatic tradition of not accepting honorific orders from elsewhere, I shall be very happy to take this trophy back to Hamburg with me. This honour proves that all our efforts in recent years have borne fruit, despite the economic crisis, the euro crisis and the container crisis, and that we can rightly describe Hamburg as Northern Europe’s most dynamic and innovative logistics base.”

Hamburg is not only Region No. 1 for the location of logistics facilities with North German shippers, since respondents in all other parts of the GFR also put Hamburg in first place. Senator Horch stressed in his words of thanks that “With our Logistics Initiative Hamburg, we have established a forum that functions well as a facility where business, politics and the academic world are engaged in a permanent interchange and together – and this is what is really unique – spot problems and challenges at an early stage and develop solutions. And I think that one really discerns this mutual trust when doing business in our city.”
