Finding digital port logistics services becomes simpler

11 Nov 2024 14:30 Digitalization

The festive closing event of the SANTANA project took place on 11 November 2024 at the Hamburg Port Authority. The new service marketplace for digital services, 'Marketplace.Hamburg', was presented at the event.

Almost three years ago, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and DAKOSY Datenkommunikationssystem AG, together with their partners Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), Eurogate and the Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center (HVCC), launched a pioneering project to further develop the digital port. They received political support from the Ministry of Economic and Innovation Affairs (BWI) of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV).

As part of the project, the port's digital infrastructure and architecture were comprehensively modernised, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and traffic management. In addition, new opportunities were created to make networking with the logistics sector easier and more efficient. The aim of the project was to create a 'network of networks' as a digital testbed. As a result of the project and the advanced digital services, the resilience of the supply chain has been significantly improved.

Port customers can now use the 'Marketplace.Hamburg' platform to search for and find relevant digital port logistics services such as online port fee declaration, information on waiting berths for inland vessels, the eDeclaration ship registration portal, slot booking via Truckgate and much more. The platform currently includes services from associated partners such as HPA, DAKOSY and HVCC. The addition of digital services from other providers is planned.

Dr Phanthian Zuesongdham, SANTANA Programme Manager at the HPA: 'With the Port of Hamburg Marketplace we want to increase the service orientation in the port of Hamburg. The marketplace should help to ensure that the port remains attractive for its customers. The conditions for data collaboration in the port of Hamburg have now been created.

Evelyn Eggers, SANTANA Programme Manager at DAKOSY: 'The logistics sector in the Port of Hamburg has been demonstrating for over 40 years that digitalisation is both possible and necessary. Further strengthening existing networks such as DAKOSY's, linking them with infrastructure and transport sector services and making this transparent for all participants in the supply chain sounds like squaring the circle. It is and remains an exciting task.

In cooperation with Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM), the marketplace is being presented to the port community as a new service. It can be accessed at www.marketplace.hamburg.

About the SANTANA project

SANTANA is an acronym for Service and Data Network Port of Hamburg. The Hamburg Port Authority AöR and DAKOSY Datenkommunikationssystem AG have jointly developed SANTANA as network partners with the support of the associated partners Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), the HHLA subsidiary Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center (HVCC) and EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH. The project was also supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic and Innovation Affairs (BWI).

The aim of the 'SANTANA' project was to establish a digital testbed in the Port of Hamburg that would link the existing digital networks of public transport and infrastructure management with those of the private logistics sector to create a network of networks.

The project was completed on 30 September 2024 after 2 years and 9 months. The project budget was around €15 million. Of this, 80 per cent was funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) under the DigiTest funding programme.
