Port handling and shipping under one contract.

The Hamburg-based Buss Port Logistics has successfully completed the near-shore logistics and storage operations for the future Veja Mate offshore windpark. Since early March, Buss Port Logistics' offshore team managed the project and was responsible for all handling and shipping of the 67 monopiles – that each weigh up to 1.300 metric tons, from receipt at the factory in Rostock up until delivery to the installation vessel at the company's own Orange Blue Terminal (OBT) in the Dutch Port of Eemshaven.

Buss Port Logistics took over the steel pipes – each with a length of up to 84.5 meters and a diameter of up to 7.8 meters directly from the EEW Special Pipe Constructions at the Port of Rostock, and loaded them onto the waiting barge. "This is the first time we offer the complete package, including shipping and all transport services. This includes the chartering of the barge and tug, as well as the route and journey planning. For the execution, we worked closely with our partner Otto Wulf GmbH & Co. KG," explains Martin Schulz, Head of Offshore Logistics.
The shipment from Rostock to the OBT in Eemshaven is carried out as a near-shore transport. At OBT, the entire terminal logistics is in the hands of Buss Port Logistics – from discharging to the storage on custom-built sand dunes (gravel dunes), to the quay-side staging for loading onto the installation vessel.

Within the last years, Eemshaven developed into one of the most important base ports for the offshore wind industry. The Veja Mate offshore windpark will be installed by Offshore WindForce (OWF) approximately 130 kilometers north of Eemshaven in the German part of the North Sea.

Buss Port Logistics to increase the offshore focus
Buss Port Logistics relies on new equipment for the monopiles transport in Rostock. “We have made a significant investment in SPMT (Self Propelled Modular Trailers) axle line units,” Martin Schulz points out “not just for this contract, but also for the future. We are committed to strengthening our value proposition to the offshore sector even further.”
