A unique beauty, insanely stubborn and difficult to conquer - that's how Martin Bornhöft describes the St. Pauli Elbtunnel. As project manager, he is responsible for the renovation of the west tube. In doing so, he is drawing on experience gained during the refurbishment of the east tube, which reopened in 2019. Currently, the upper tunnel cross-section is being renovated. This will take about two years. After that, it will be the turn of the lower section of the 426-metre-long tube. The teams are working in this historic structure according to historical models. That makes the project unique. For the first time, a film team was able to take pictures of the work in the west tube of this Hamburg landmark - to be seen in this episode of PORT IS WHAT WE DO.
