HHR Shanghai
The Port of Hamburg – Asia's European hub for imports and exports
Economic ties between China and Germany have deepened over the past decades. In 2024, China was Germany’s second most important trading partner. Across Asia, a growing trend toward diversification is becoming increasingly evident, elevating the importance of Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. The Port of Hamburg plays a pivotal role in facilitating trade with Asia, serving as a central hub connecting sea and land transportation.
Amid today’s challenging times, Asia remains the Port of Hamburg’s most significant trading partner.
Activities of HHR Shanghai
The HHR Shanghai in Hamburg’s partner city of Shanghai advocates for the interests of Hamburg’s maritime industry. It facilitates connections with Chinese logistics and shipping companies, as well as with industrial, trade, and association partners. The Shanghai office maintains excellent relationships not only with the world’s largest container port in Shanghai but also with other major ports throughout East and Southeast Asia, including along the Chinese coast, in Korea, and in Singapore. Additionally, the office fosters close ties with local businesses and political entities.
The representative office provides support to HHM member companies interested in the Asian market by organizing delegation trips, business visits, events, and trade fair participation. It also offers advisory services on business formation, contract and legal matters, and assistance with establishing business contacts.
Furthermore, the Shanghai office serves as the primary point of contact for Asian companies looking to arrange visitor programs focused on the Port of Hamburg and other ports in the Hamburg metropolitan region.
