The Port of Hamburg as the key to Hungary's logistics hub

Thanks to its excellent hinterland transport connections and well-organised logistics chains, the Port of Hamburg has established itself as an important and attractive partner in Hungary. Hungary plays a central role in the distribution of international goods flows in Europe. The country's geographical location between Central, Southern and Eastern Europe and the TEN corridors that run through Hungary are largely responsible for this.

The Port of Hamburg is characterised by a high departure density and impresses with its reliability and excellent handling quality. Rail transport is the most important transport route for the transfer of goods between Hamburg and Hungary. Around 30 block trains run between Hamburg and Budapest every week. In addition to the Budapest terminals, other important terminals in the region are those in Dunajska Streda and Kosice in Slovakia.

Activities of HHR Budapest

Port of Hamburg Marketing has had its own representative office in Budapest since 1992. In 2024, Alexander M. Till, the long-standing head of the Vienna office, also took over the management of the Budapest office. Since January 2025, he has been supported locally by Andras Fazekas, who joins the team as representative for Hungary.

Our experts maintain close contacts with companies from industry and trade as well as the transport and logistics sector. We also have strong networks with business organisations and political decision-makers. We provide regular information on developments in the Port of Hamburg and the metropolitan region and act as a link between Hamburg and the Hungarian maritime industry.

A particular focus of the reorganisation of the Budapest Representative Office is on close, personal networking. The Hamburg Harbour Evening in Budapest has established itself over many years as one of the largest and best-attended events in the maritime industry in Hungary. Here, companies from Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and other countries can present their services and products and make valuable contacts. We offer comprehensive support for member companies operating on the Hungarian market and assist them in their business activities. We also promote the development of strategic networks by strengthening long-term relationships and contacts between our member companies in Hungary and Hamburg. An essential part of our work is the organisation of professional events, such as the Hamburg Port Evening in Budapest, one of the largest events in Hungary's maritime sector, which attracts up to 250 guests. In addition, we regularly provide up-to-date information on developments in the Port of Hamburg and the metropolitan region. As the first point of contact, we offer in-depth background information on the Port of Hamburg and the metropolitan region in order to provide our members with the best possible information and support.
