HHR Germany West

The Port of Hamburg – most important hub for North Rhine-Westphalia’s foreign trade

For the Port of Hamburg, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with its industry dominated by foreign trade, is of great importance on the export and import side. Shippers and forwarders from North Rhine-Westphalia use the dense network of worldwide liner services via Hamburg for the global distribution of imported and exported goods, including predominantly merchandise and department store goods, metals and metal products, machinery and equipment, vehicles, and foodstuffs and luxury goods.

For years, the traffic volume has been around the 500,000 TEU mark. This makes North Rhine-Westphalia the second most important region for container hinterland traffic in the Port of Hamburg.

Activities of HHR Germany West

Port of Hamburg Marketing has already been active in North Rhine-Westphalia for many years. In 2014, the representative office in Dortmund was opened to serve the region even more intensively. At the beginning of 2020, the office was relocated to Essen.

The office represents the interests of operators and service providers in the Port of Hamburg and forges contacts with companies in trade and industry, in the transport and logistics sector, as well as trade associations and political decision-makers in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the states of Lower Saxony, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It aims to provide briefing on the latest developments in the Port of Hamburg and to build up business relationships.
