DEUFOL strengthens waterside throughput at the Port of Hamburg

The supply chain expert Deufol is expanding its second terminal at the Port of Hamburg.

By David Gail

A real heavyweight has been operating at DEUFOL’s second terminal in Hamburg since the middle of the year: the LIEBHERR LHM500 harbour crane has added significant capacity for waterside throughput. With a lifting capability of up to 140 tonnes and its excellent flexibility for heavy goods and special transports, the crane facilitates the transfer of large quantities of goods from road to water – a crucial step for the sustainable development of the Hamburg region and in easing the strain on the road infrastructure.

This increased throughput capacity has already borne fruit at the DEUFOL site on Rossweg 20: barges are handled several times a week, making the terminal an important hub for heavy goods shipments. Not only does the crane offer outstanding flexibility for oversized transport units, it also speeds up throughput and authorisation processes. Since the crane was put into operation, numerous ambitious projects have been brought to a successful conclusion thanks to smooth collaboration with Vollers, emphasising yet again the strong performance at this location.

Furthermore, deployment of the LHM500 crane presents fresh opportunities for our end-2-end business and improves connections at our international HUB network at the same time. Customers can now deliver their goods and shipments directly by water for onward transport via our flexible network – faster and more sustainably than ever before.

By expanding its waterside throughput capacities in Hamburg, DEUFOL is underscoring its commitment to sustainable and efficient logistics solutions. The Rossweg site stands as a prime example of how high-performance infrastructure and flexibility can be combined to fulfil customer requirements and strengthen the entire logistics landscape in the region.
