With the floating LNG terminal at Elbehafen – which is operated by Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH – the site is already making a significant contribution to national supply security. Elbehafen will continue to expand its strategic importance over the years ahead. Aside from organising LNG imports to secure the supply of natural gas, the facility will increasingly focus on sustainable energy solutions in the coming years. One example is the plan to develop the port into an important throughput hub for green energy sources such as hydrogen and its derivatives. Elbehafen will also carve a niche as a central CO₂ export hub.
