In the historic building of Kaispeicher B in the HafenCity, the International Maritime Museum Hamburg tells the stories of explorers and conquerors, captains and simple seafarers. Different topics are chronologically ordered on nine decks.
1,000 small and 36,000 large ship models, 5,000 paintings and graphics and countless more maritime objects visualize shipping and marine history of over 3,000 years. 120,000 books and atlases, 50,000 design plans, 2,000 films, 500,000 photos and 15,000 ship menus are available in the library and archive.
The museums is based on the collection of Prof. Peter Tamm, who converted the world's largest private collection of its kind into a foundation.
