InfoFor approximately 5 million people, Hamburg was the "Gateway to the World" between 1850 and 1939. The ground's emigration halls in Veddel, built by HAPAG’s chairman Albert Ballin, were last homestead for emigrants, waiting for their departure to America.
The Emigration Museum was built in 2007 at the historical location. Here visitors can relive all the phases of emigration.
