The Port of Hamburg Marketing representative office Hong Kong, which is led by Ms. Anne Thiesen, has had good relations with the German Consulate General for many years now. In the summer of 2017, Consul General Dieter Lamlé took over the position. Mr. Lamlé has a particular affinity to the Maritime Industry and expressed towards Anne Thiesen his interest, to get to know this industry in Hong Kong and South China in detail.

Anne Thiesen took this wish up and made use of the excellent contacts to Hamburg’s partner port Shenzhen to organize a visit of the port with a group of chosen guests on February 1st 2018. Participants were the managing directors of the German Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, a group of German executives from the region and as guests of honor consuls General Consul Lamlé, Hong Kong and Fleischer, Guangzhou. Patrick Lam, Managing Director Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT) did not hesitate to personally welcome the guests. YICT is the largest single terminal in the world with a turnover of 12 million TEU.

Due to the excellent contacts to the OOCL management a guided tour on the OOCL Germany followed as special programme item. The OOCL Germany is with a length of 400 meters and a capacity of 21 314 TEU one of the biggest container ships worldwide. On board the visitors were personally welcomed by the captain and they obtained information during a round tour on the ship.
