Port of Hamburg Marketing: Annual Report

In 2016 Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM) once again positioned the port very effectively on the market. The large number of functions organized by the association contributed towards giving the port a sharper profile. Last year almost 4000 decision-makers from Hamburg’s port & logistics sector, and from industry, trade and transport out in the market regions, took part in the diverse range of events offered. In addition, the marketing organization looked after 115 visitor groups, represented the port at numerous trade fairs and conferences, and gained 16 new members.

The Port of Hamburg embarked on 2016 from a difficult position. The shipping crisis was still all-pervading and the insolvency of the Hanjin shipping company underlined the extent of it, for the Port of Hamburg as well. Against this background, during the year intensive cultivation of the market and diverse activities proved of great value. This was also emphasized by Ingo Egloff, Joint CEO of Port of Hamburg Marketing, who underlined the association’s importance: “Many of our members come from the shipping sector. When such companies are struggling for survival on the market, that’s something which we naturally feel as well. On the other hand, it is especially in tough times that many companies use our activities to present themselves there.” One good example of the breadth of the association’s services is the German-Latvian Maritime Forum in Riga, organized for the first time in 2016 and of great benefit for all those involved. “Stronger commitment in the Baltic was something requested by many of our members. Our first priority is to build up relations between Hamburg’s port and transport business, our members, and our customers and partners in the relevant market regions,” declared Axel Mattern, Joint CEO of Port of Hamburg Marketing.

The association will continue in future to strengthen the position of Germany’s largest seaport, using targeted marketing to firmly anchor the ‘Port of Hamburg’ brand in its target markets. HHM faces future cooperation with its members with enthusiasm, and looks forward to their shaping the coming months actively and successfully together. “Special thanks go to our members. Their commitment remains indispensable for the positive development of the Port of Hamburg,” said Ingo Egloff.
