On 17 June the Port of Hamburg was rated Best Global Seaport by readers of the Asia Cargo News trade magazine. After two awards as Best Seaport – Europe in 2015 and 2016, as well as the accolade Best Global Seaport 2018, this is the fourth honour for the Port of Hamburg.

The presentation was made during a ceremony at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center attended by more than 200 international guests, many from the transport and logistics sector. Anne Thiesen accepted the award as Representative of the Port of Hamburg. In the final round, the Port of Hamburg prevailed against the ports of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Singapore. Nominations were submitted by readers of the trade journal Asia Cargo News, considering reliability, customer-relationship management, innovations and consistent service quality as of importance. Factors rated included investments in infrastructure having regard to future market requirements, competitive, customer-friendly dues, as well as infrastructure appropriate for handling container traffic. Additional criteria rated the ports’ total package, i.e. port-related promotion of logistics services, and forwarding and transport services.

With more than 10,000 readers, Asia Cargo News is among Asia’s leading publications for the logistics and sea/air freight industry. “We are delighted about what is now our fourth honour from Asia Cargo News – and all the more so, since it is for the best seaport worldwide. That puts us ahead, not just of our rival European ports, but also those in Asia. This shows that in international competition, the Port of Hamburg scores with its immense variety of services and high clearance quality, being appreciated for the services its provides as a universal port,” stressed Axel Mattern, Joint CEO of Port of Hamburg Marketing - HHM.
