Every September the Port of Halifax organizes the Halifax Port Days.

Over 1000 representatives of Harbor and economy as well as politicians and representatives of national and international associations meet for two days in order to exchange views on conferences and cultivate contacts at numerous networking events.

Axel Mattern Chief Executive Officer of Port of Hamburg Marketing and Katharina Weidemann (PHM) participated on the Halifax Port Days 2018 on the invitation of the Canadian harbor . „In our individual meetings with Karen Oldfield, the President CEO and her fellow board members Hector Jaques and Patrick Bohan we talked mainly about the trading developments and the maritime transport with Germany,” says Mattern.

Another opportunity for exchange for example with the Mayor Mike Savage and many other interesting guests was given within the very diversified program.

“Our member, the Port of Halifax was a fantastic host and all of us were able to establish new contacts and inform us about the economic development of the Nova Scotia Region and the special requirements in the Atlantic Port of Halifax,” says Mr. Mattern.

Hamburg and Canada are directly connected through liner shipping services. Canada takes an important role in seaborne foreign trade for Germany`s largest universal port. Highlight of the Halifax Port Days was the closing event also known as the Lobster Feast Dinner with over 800 participants.
