As part of the Blue Supply Chains project, the UIRR (International Union for Road-Rail combined transport) and the SGKV (German promotion centre for intermodal transport) invite you to a webinar on the topic ‘Stena Line rail ferry - importance of infrastructure and political support’.
The Stena Line rail ferry is one of the last remaining train ferries in operation, allowing rail freight trains to roll directly onto a ferry for seamless transit across the Baltic between Rostock (Germany) and Trelleborg (Sweden). Given the risks associated with disruptions on the Great Belt Bridge and the increasing need for resilient transport corridors - especially in the wake of Sweden joining NATO - this ferry route holds strategic significance, including for military logistics.
This webinar highlights the opportunities rail ferry lines may bring to the intermodal freight sector, and the interlink between continental Europe and Scandinavia, by offering a seamless rail and sea solution for transporting both transport units and rolling stock. It will examine the potential policy measures that can support rail ferry operators and their users, highlight the regions where these lines operate, and showcase the business and strategic solutions their infrastructure provides.
