Company ProfilThe cooperation between Uruguay’s most important sea port Montevideo and Hamburg has been in effect since 2005. Port of Montevideo is situated at Rio de la Plata, west of Montevideo Bay, 210 kilometers from Buenos Aires, 1,077 kilometers from Asunción, 700 kilometers from Porto Alegre and 2,000 kilometers from Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
The port is managed by the Administración Nacional del Puerto Montevideo, which is responsible for all ports in Uruguay. Port of Montevideo has three piers with a total of 17 berths and handled a total throughput of 888,000 TEU in 2016. Most of the handled goods consist of bulk, RoRo and container cargo.
Container traffic between Uruguay and Hamburg came to 18,500 TEU in 2016. As of today, there are four liner services between the ports of Hamburg and Montevideo.
