Six inland ports – One partner! Inland ports at the Upper Elbe as business locations in the middle of Europe The Sächsische Binnenhäfen Oberelbe GmbH (SBO) is a multimodal orientated logistics company offering widely varied services in the Elbe river ports Dresden, Riesa and Torgau. In 2002 the SBO founded its subsidiary Česko-saské přístavy s.r.o. (ČSP) which operates the two Czech Elbe river ports Děčín and Lovosice.
The port of Roßlau (Industriehafen Roßlau GmbH – IHR) was included into the company group in 2004. The inland ports on the river Elbe offer cargo-handling and logistics companies optimal site conditions that have been developed by investment and sanitation measures. Currently, about 70 companies are accommodated in the six inland ports offering a wide range of services. By implementing an extensive port development program in these places and also by cooperating in concepts for freight service centers in European inland ports, the port company has become a competent partner for transport companies and the cargo-handling industry.
The SBO, the IHR and the ČSP offer their customers complete logistics solutions for waterway, road and rail in the fields of heavy, bulk and general cargo as well as the operation of container terminals. In cooperation with established forwarders the SBO realizes several weekly departures to Hamburg with the barge scheduled services “ECL2000” (Elbe-Container-Line), “ETS Elbe” (Ecological Transport Service) and “EPL Elbe” (Elbe Project Line) and from the inland port Riesa to Hamburg/Bremerhaven with the TFG AlbatrosExpress block train. In 2009 the SBO arranged cooperation with the port company Brunsbüttel Ports GmbH at the Lower Elbe.
Besides the improvement of present logistics supply chains, such as transport of rotor blades for wind energy plants, the port companies will establish new services especially regarding the connection between short sea transport and inland water navigation. In this case Brunsbüttel is responsible for the coordination of sea transports; SBO will coordinate the inland waterway transports.
