  Port of Hamburg’s cooperation with Kaohsiung has been in effect since 1999. Handling 10.5 million TEU in 2016, Port of Kaohsiung took thirteenth place among the world’s Top 15 container ports. The largest international port in Taiwan is located on the south-west coast of the country. Kaohsiung possesses five container terminals along its 12-kilometer coastline. As a significant transit port, it is well connected with Hamburg, Rotterdam, San Francisco, and Vancouver.
  The main imports via the port are chemical products, machinery and plant. Among exports are finished goods, and also machinery and plant, automotive parts, clothing and electrical products. Container traffic between Taiwan and Hamburg came to 168,458 TEU in 2016. As of today, there are four liner services between the ports of Hamburg and Kaohsiung.
