Port of Hamburg’s cooperation with Port of Halifax has been in effect since 2014. With five container terminals and 20 berths, it is one of the biggest ports in North America besides the Port of Vancouver. Landlord and managing cooperation is the Halifax Port Authority.
In 2015, the Canadian port handled a total throughput of 418,000 TEU. Container traffic between Canada and Hamburg came to 168,000 TEU in the same year. As of today, there are three liner services between the ports of Hamburg and Halifax. Most of the handled goods consist of bulk, RoRo and container cargo. Furthermore, Port of Halifax has developed into a popular destination for cruise ships from all over the world.
