Focus on markets
The universal Port of Hamburg is dominated by container handling, accounting for 66.2 percent of the port’s total throughput in 2018. Around 8.7 million standard containers (TEU) of seaborne cargo passed through Hamburg’s terminals in 2018.
Hamburg has witnessed a distinct increase in throughput since the beginning of the year, thanks largely to new ser- vices, particularly on transatlantic routes, but also for East Asia and feeder shipping. First-half container handling rose by 7.5 percent to around 4.7 million TEU.
