China is now Germany’s leading trade partner for imports, particular- ly in the field of EDP and other electronic and eletrical equipment.
In the 1980s and 1990s, the dominant imported product groups from China were still ‘clothing and textiles’.
Top German imports from China in 2018:
• EDP,electricalandopticalequipment–forexample,computers,data storage equipment and consumer electronics – for 37.8 billion euros. These account for more than 40 percent of the trade.
• Electricalequipment–forexample,batteries,electricmotorsandhouse- hold appliances – for 13.5 billion euros – 14.4 percent
• Clothing,textilesandshoesfor13billioneuros–13.8percent
• Machineryfor9.0billioneuros–9.5percent.
• Toysfor3.3billioneuros–3.5percent.
