HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA)

The Container Terminal Altenwerder is among the most modern container handling facilities in the world. Container handling is almost entirely automated – driverless vehicles transport the boxes between the quay and block storage areas. The terminal began operations in 2002 as a joint project of Hamburger Hafen- und Logistik AG (HHLA) and the Hapag-Lloyd shipping lines. A total of 15 container gantry cranes are available at the four berths for large container ships.
