With its new refrigeration system, Eichholtz continues to uphold the highest standards of quality
With its new cold storage depot, commissioned at the start of June, Eichholtz GmbH remains faithful to its longstanding corporate philosophy and continues to maintain the highest quality standards. The refrigeration system installed in the new depot at the company’s centrally located Hamburg premises, Müggenburger Strasse 15, lives up to the highest modern expectations and offers reliable and accurate temperature control from 6 to 12 degrees Celsius at an atmospheric humidity of between 55 and 65 percent. With its digital controls the system is economical in its use of energy, and so also meets environmental requirements. With the addition of the new depot Eichholtz GmbH has increased its cold storage facilities from 19,000 to a total of 32,000 cubic metres.
The company’s core business includes the handling of sensitive raw foodstuffs like seed, nuts, dried fruits and legumes. With more than three million tons of oilseed and over 80,000 tons of legumes every year, the Port of Hamburg is an important handling centre for these types of goods.
The far-ranging services offered by Eichholtz GmbH also include the logistical handling of non-food articles and other top-quality commercial goods, sometimes involving order picking for reputed discounters in connection with special deals and promotion campaigns. As an effective partner Eichholtz GmbH offers all services from a single source, ranging from warehousing to transhipment and extending to the upgrading, cleaning, order picking and distribution of goods.
The new storage area extends to more than 20,000 square metres. Flexible shelf systems involving mobile racks are used, enabling the goods to be stored in the best possible conditions in view of the significantly improved point loading and ventilation. This means that the storage facilities can be extended when required by as much as 30 percent. The ultra-modern sieving, sorting and cleaning systems involve a sequence of steps that give rise to almost 100 percent cleaning results. Mixing, packaging and weighing systems are then used to make up the finished articles and label them in accordance with customer requirements. The company also offers its clients supplementary services on request, including the management of customs clearance and the organisation of pre-carriage and onward carriage operations.
Franziska Kraupner, Managing Director of Eichholtz GmbH, comments: ‘For more than 75 years our customers have been relying on the first-class quality of our services and benefiting from the wide range of facilities we offer at our Hamburg site. We ensure that standards are maintained not just as a result of our regular investments in modern equipment and technology, but also and above all thanks to our team of motivated and committed employees. Moreover we develop individual solutions for our customers which help them to compete successfully in both regional and international markets.’
Eichholtz GmbH currently has 30 employees on its payroll. With a current goods handling total of 50,000 tons per annum, the company is a well established player at the Port of Hamburg.
