Hamburg goes all in with Gothenburg

Between September 9 -10th, the city of Hamburg will set up a camp in Gothenburg. The entire market square at Gustaf Adolf’s Torg will be filled with sights and experiences from the German port city. Besides food and drinks, you may take guided Hamburg tours and listen to live music. The entire event is free of charge and open from 11 am until 7 pm.

Three years ago, Hamburg Convention Bureau initiated Hamburg on Tour – a two-day event – set to market the city as a fantastic destination for travelling, working and living. Following Vienna and Copenhagen, it is now time for Gothenburg to host the special visit. Together with partners within culture, economics, tourism and food the program of this year´s event is more ambitious than ever. The Hamburg on Tour pre-kick off is on Thursday 8th September with a networking event with representatives from the Gothenburg political, commercial and industrial life. Hamburgs Deputy Mayor and Senator (Minister) for Science, Research and Gender Equality Katharina Fegebank, who will represent Hamburg in Gothenburg for the event, says: ”I’m really looking forward to visit Gothenburg. Our cities have a lot in common. Both cities are building their liberal and diverse societies on a solid economic base and a vibrant cultural life. Both of us know that our future lies in a good mixture of industry, trade, science and innovation. On our networking event I´m sure, we will find many ideas for future cooperation which will add value to both of our cities.”

For the following two-day public event the Gustaf Adolf’s Torg will transform into a miniature version of Hamburg. Street art performer and artist Lydia Hitzfeldt will turn the river Elbe into a three dimensional street painting stretching across the entire square and creating an illusion of walking along the waterfront in Hamburg. Visitors are welcome to hang out in the lounge area, enjoy great food, soft drinks and coffee. There will be live music representing the music festivals 48h Wilhelmsburg, Hanse Song Festival and BID Reeperbahn. Visitors will be offered guided tours through vibrating St. Pauli or catch a glance of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg; the new city concert hall and a landmark that will be inaugurated in early 2017. Besides all the activities taking place on Gustaf Adolf´s Torg, there will be lots of fun outside the event area. At night, the concept “A wall is a screen” will light up the streets of Gothenburg. It’s a combination of a city tour and outside cinema where short films in different genres will play on walls throughout the city.

Hamburg on Tour is a great platform for it partners. Stena Line is one of the Swedish partners in the project. Offering a number of departures from Gothenburg to Kiel, only one-hour travel by car or train from Hamburg. ”We are proud partners of Hamburg on Tour as Hamburg represents a popular travel destination among our guests.
