As the first vessel to be used in the new Euro-Aegean service of the Grimaldi Lines shipping company, the RoRo ship Grande Sicilia was dispatched at Hamburg's Unikai Terminal on 27 December 2008.

Last month saw the encounter of two Chinese ships of a very special kind at the Port of Hamburg. On 19 November 2008 the recently built 10,000 TEU vessel COSCO Indian Ocean, belonging to the COSCO Container Lines shipping company, docked at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort.

On the first trip of the new South America service SAFRAN, the CMA CGM VIOLET put in to Hamburg on 03 December 2008. Loading and unloading was carried out at the Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA).

On 29 November 2008 the CMA CGM GALILEE put in at the Port of Hamburg. Built in 2003 at Hyundai's Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, the container ship is 222 metres long, 30 metres wide and has a container slot capacity of 2800 TEUs as well as 560 refrigerated container connections.
