Vienna Office
Vienna Office
The Port of Hamburg’s representative office in Austria has been in existence since January 1951. After Friedrich Anderl, the head of the Vienna office from the year 2000 until April 2007, went into retirement, Alexander Till took over the position in July 2007. The former product manager for seafreight with the company Schenker & Co. AG, represents the interests of the Port of Hamburg in Austria.
There has been a close relationship between the Alpine republic and the Hanseatic City for centuries. The Port of Hamburg is the most important cargo transhipment location for Austrian exports. For Austria’s economy, it is also the container port that handles the largest volume of cargo. The estimated total volume of Austrian containerised imports and exports passing through Hamburg in 2006 is approx. 450,000 TEU.
Hamburg enjoys an excellent reputation in Austria. This is certainly also due to the HHM representative office in Vienna, whose staff has tirelessly promoted the Port of Hamburg over the last 56 years. The annual Port Anniversary, celebrated for the last 25 years at Vienna’s Heurigen Zimmermann, is considered the most popular event for Austria’s entire transport sector. In addition, HHM’s Vienna office has been organising informational tours to Hamburg for Austrian forwarders and other business representatives for years.
Other focal points of the office’s activities are on maintaining contacts with the port’s customers, such as forwarders and shipping companies, as well as with associations and the Ministry of Transport. The representative office also advises the transport sector and provides information about future trends in the maritime cargo industry. The proximity to the Austrian market allows the representative office to respond quickly to changing market demands and to adapt to them in consultation with partner companies in Hamburg.
