Excellent transport links by truck, barge and rail between Hamburg and the hinterland play a crucial role. The road, inland waterway and rail network is therefore continually being upgraded and modernized to meet all essential requirements. Smooth and rapid transport of all goods with maximum environmental compatibility is of special importance for achieving commercial success.

As a transit country between Northern and Southern Europe, Switzerland possesses a splendidly developed transport network and is excellently linked with the Port of Hamburg via Europe’s North-South route, the A7 autobahn, the A5 and the A81. Rail is the leading carrier for cargo from and into Switzerland.

Rail traffic

Almost 100 percent of the cargo transshipped for Switzerland in Hamburg is transported by rail.
