Berlin’s exports accounted for 13 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2010, with a volume of 12.3 billion euros. In the same year goods to a value of 9.7 billion euros were imported.

The main goods exported consist of pharmaceutical products, vehicles and automotive parts, equipment for generating and distributing electricity, as well as tobacco products.

The leading foreign trade partners for seaborne exports are the USA, Japan and China, and for seaborne imports, the USA, China and Canada.

Almost 60,000 TEU per year are transported in container traffic between Berlin and Hamburg.

In 2010 the export share of Brandenburg’s GDP was 22 percent, with a volume of 12.3 billion euros. Goods to a value of 14.5 billion euros were imported in the same year.

Important export goods are steel products, paper and wood products, automotive parts and chemical Products.

The leading foreign trade partners for exports by sea are the USA, China and India; and for imports by sea, Canada, Brazil and Korea.

Around 125,000 TEU to and from Brandenburg are annually imported and exported via the Port of Hamburg.
