International Fleet and Order Book
At that time construction contracts existed for 1,167 ships and 6.1 million TEU which made up nearly 25 percent respectively 49 percent of the existing fleet.
For the fourth quarter of 2008 no more new construction contracts were concluded. However for the years 2009 and 2010 a fleet growth between 11 and 13 percent is predicted. Also the scrapping potential of estimated 240,000 TEU (2009) and 140,000 TEU (2010) is taking little change at it. In the first quarter of 2009 the international container hold for 78,000 TEU was disposed.
The order books for shipyards let expect further that the trend to bigger units continues increasing. The international shipping more and more put ships with storing position capacities up to 14,000 TEU in circulation and these ships also come more and more to Hamburg.
