First arrival in Hamburg of the CMA CGM GALILEE in the new regular container service to Australia NEW NEMO
On 29 November 2008 the CMA CGM GALILEE put in at the Port of Hamburg. Built in 2003 at Hyundai's Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, the container ship is 222 metres long, 30 metres wide and has a container slot capacity of 2800 TEUs as well as 560 refrigerated container connections.
The CMA CGM GALILEE forms part of CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd's new Australian container service NEW NEMO. According to current planning, the service will be handled at HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB). With a transit time of just 31 days between Hamburg and Fremantle, the NEW NEMO service is the most rapid connection between Europe and Australia, and the only direct one.
Ports served by NEW NEMO's round trip are Hamburg, Rotterdam, Le Havre, La Spezia, Damietta, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Singapore, Port Kelang, Chennai, Colombo, Damietta, Marsaxlokk, La Spezia and Tilbury.
The new service will be using six vessels from the shipping company CMA CGM and another six from Hapag-Lloyd, each having a load capacity of 2100 to 2800 TEUs. With weekly departures, the round trip takes 84 days. Marfret, ANL and DAL have already booked slot space with NEW NEMO.
