The 2012 cruising season was again a record year for the member ports of the Atlantic Alliance. A total passenger volume of 2.2 million throughout the 15 ports equated to a 10 percent increase compared to the previous year (2011: 2 million passengers). At the same time, the number of port calls rose from 1,120 in 2011 to 1,215 in 2012, an increase of 8.5 percent. More than 50 cruise companies position their ships along the west coast of Europe, including at the English ports of Portland and Dover.

Doing enough to meet the legal requirements on environmental care is one thing – going further, on a voluntary basis, is quite another. This was the clear message at a recent Cruise Gateway North Sea Region event.

The port and city of Gothenburg provided a green agenda and green inspiration for members of Cruise Gateway, an EU-funded project.

The Full Metal Cruise 2013 organized by TUI Cruises in cooperation with ICS, the protagonists behind the legendary Wacken Open Air, is the biggest heavy metal cruise in Europe. Sailing from and returning to Hamburg, from 5 to 12 May the cruise will be visiting ports including Amsterdam and Le Havre. Ultimately, the Full Metal Cruise will culminate in a spectacular rock show to be staged while entering into port on the Port of Hamburg’s anniversary.
